I have been hearing some talk of Hyundai trying to make it in the luxury market.
Cool.
I took it upon myself to go interview an Equus and a Genesis.
And then popped over to the local merc dealership to do a comparison.
Fifty zero percent of you will hate me and start flaming.
The rest of you should get a good laugh and/or agree.
I am also stuffed up. So speaking is not my strong suit tonight.
The cliffs notes are that there is a longer way to go than most would suspect.

For going above and beyond and conducting an inspection in the most uncommon areas, I salut.
Kia/Hyundai may try, but dammit i'd never consider them a competitor in the "luxury" price range. No prestige, no history.
They should just toss the Tau V8 in the Genesis Coupe and call it a day.

Bookmarking this for when people ask me why I hate Hyundai or tell me to 'give Hyundai a chance.'

I had a Mk3 jetta and put 17" wheels and tires on it and then dumped it on coilovers. I consciously made sure to keep the width stock and general size of the tire/wheel assembly the same as it left the factory. Why? Fender rollers do crap on German steel. Even 200k miles on, the best way to do a proper roll job on a VW fender is to get a decently high temperature heat gun and spend probably an hour or so on each fender when the vehicle is on a hoist. On a honda or toyota? Meh, 5 minutes each. The paint and metal are thin so feel free to go hard on them........ Although I do appreciate that the frame rail rotted away on my jetta a bit.

"Welded like glue" :-)
And damn that Hyundai looked like a p.o.s.

My mom's 6-year-old, 65,000 mile Saturn Vue, which was mass produced in Mexico by GM in 2008, is better screwed together than those Hyundais. That's...shocking.
That being said, I'd still pick up a Genesis coupe. Less luxury more attractive pony car.

Hahaha that is my local VW dealer. I blast by that dealer laughing in my Miata.

Once Hyundai has put more years under its belt making good cars than utter crap, I will give them a chance. At this point anyone who pays Mercedes money for a Hyundai is out of their mind.

OH yes! I read your story. Even modifying German cars is a hassle and over complication.

Really?! Hahah thats awesome! VW does this with every single dealer. Each of them show their models against the competition, and then touch stuff that is harder than the other.

My granddad almost bought one, because it is the least pretentious $60-70k car on the market. There is a market, albeit a small one, for people who don't want to show off how much they spent on a car, even if it is expensive.
